African Black Duck song and calls

Song

Males produce a soft, reedy 'whee-oo' whistle. Females have a typical duck-like quack, often described as a harsh 'quack-quack-quack' or a softer 'quip-quip-quip'.

Calls

Both sexes emit alarm calls when disturbed, which are sharper and more urgent versions of their typical calls. Females also have a decrescendo call.

When they vocalize

Most vocal during the breeding season and when disturbed. Generally quiet outside of these times.
