How it forages
A specialized piscivore. It hunts by swimming submerged, using its long, sharp bill to spear fish. After spearing, it surfaces, tosses the fish into the air, and swallows it headfirst. Also consumes amphibians, aquatic insects, and crustaceans. Often seen perched with wings spread to dry, as its plumage is not fully waterproof.
