Birds to compare

Barred Parakeet

Bolborhynchus orbygnesius

Key differences

The Barred Parakeet is found exclusively in the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia, at much higher elevations (above 3,000m). While it shares the 'barred' appearance, its barring is typically more extensive and darker, and it lacks the distinct black underwing patch of the Lineolated Parakeet. Its overall coloration can also be slightly duller.

Andean Parakeet

Bolborhynchus ferrugineifrons

Key differences

The Andean Parakeet is restricted to a small range in the central Andes of Colombia. It is generally larger and has a distinctive rusty-red forehead and lores, which the Lineolated Parakeet lacks. Its barring is also less prominent than that of the Lineolated Parakeet.
