Murkrow song and calls

Song

Murkrows do not possess a complex song. Their vocalizations are primarily a series of harsh, guttural calls and caws, often described as 'kraa-kraa' or 'karr-karr'. They can also produce a variety of clicks, whistles, and mimicry of other birds or sounds.

Calls

Common calls include a sharp, metallic 'kree-kree' used as an alarm call, a softer 'churr' for contact within a flock, and a distinctive, almost cackling 'murk-murk' sound, which gives the species its common name. They are known for their varied and sometimes eerie vocalizations, especially at night.

When they vocalize

Vocalize throughout the day, but their calls become particularly prominent at dawn and dusk during communal roosting and foraging activities. Increased vocalization during the breeding season for territorial defense and mate communication.
