The Smooth-billed Ani is smaller (30-36 cm) and has a less massive, less arched, and less laterally compressed bill. Its bill appears smoother and less 'helmet-like' than the Greater Ani's. Its calls are also distinct, typically a rising 'coo-weee' or 'o-lee-o'.
