Montane Forests
Primary and well-preserved secondary montane forests on Luzon, Mindoro, Negros, and Mindanao are the best places. Specific sites include Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park (Mindanao), Mt. Apo Natural Park (Mindanao), and areas within the Cordillera Central (Luzon).
Forest Edges and Undergrowth
While preferring dense forest, they can sometimes be seen at forest edges or in areas with thick undergrowth, especially where there is ample leaf litter.
Field tips
- Patience and Stealth. This is a shy and often secretive bird. Move slowly and quietly through suitable habitat, and be prepared to wait patiently.
