Field tips
- Look for perching birds. Brahminy Kites often perch conspicuously on exposed branches, power poles, or other high vantage points overlooking water. They are not shy.
- Scan the skies. They are frequently seen soaring high on thermals, especially during the warmer parts of the day. Their distinctive plumage makes them easy to spot against the sky.
- Observe feeding behavior. Watch for them snatching fish or carrion from the water surface with their talons, often without getting wet.
- Listen for calls. Their distinctive call can often alert you to their presence before you see them.
- Visit wetlands and coastlines. Focus your birdwatching efforts in their preferred habitats, particularly during low tide when more food sources might be exposed.
Migration
