Song

The song is a series of long, ethereal, flute-like notes, each held for several seconds and often followed by a brief pause before the next note. Each note is typically on a different pitch, creating a haunting, bell-like quality. It's often described as a single, drawn-out whistle, followed by another on a different pitch, then another, and so on. The quality is often described as 'ventriloquial' due to its carrying yet elusive nature.

Calls

Common calls include a soft, low 'chup' or 'chuck' call, often given when foraging or disturbed. They also have a sharp 'tseep' alarm call.

When they vocalize

Sings most frequently during the breeding season, from early spring through mid-summer, primarily at dawn and dusk. Calls are given year-round.
