Where does the Indian Yellow Tit live?

Biomes

Tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, moist lowland forests, montane forests, open woodlands, scrublands, orchards, and gardens.

Geographic range

Indian subcontinent, primarily peninsular India. Its range extends from Gujarat and Rajasthan eastwards through central India to West Bengal, and southwards throughout peninsular India.

Preferred environments

Prefers deciduous and mixed deciduous forests, especially those with mature trees. Also common in well-wooded gardens, plantations, and groves near human habitation.

Elevation range

Typically found from plains up to approximately 1,800 meters (6,000 feet) in hilly regions.

Where to look

Field tips

1. Listen for calls. Their distinctive calls and songs are often easier to detect than spotting the bird itself, as they can be quite active and blend into foliage.
2. Observe mixed-species flocks. Outside the breeding season, they frequently join mixed-species foraging flocks, so look for them among other small birds.
3. Check tree canopies. They are arboreal and spend most of their time foraging in the canopy and mid-story of trees. Look for active movements among leaves and branches.
4. Patience and binoculars. Being small and active, they require patience and good binoculars for clear observation.

Migration

Resident throughout its range; generally non-migratory. May undertake local movements in response to food availability or weather conditions.
