Song

Northern Gannets do not have a complex song. Their vocalizations are primarily harsh, guttural calls.

Calls

A variety of harsh, raucous, and often repetitive calls, typically described as 'arrah-arrah-arrah' or 'urrah-urrah'. These calls are most frequently heard within the breeding colony, used for territorial defense, greeting mates, and during disputes. At sea, they are generally silent.

When they vocalize

Most vocal during the breeding season, especially within the dense colonies. Generally silent at sea.
