Scarlet Minivet look-alikes

Key differences

The Orange Minivet is smaller and has a more restricted range. Males have a brighter orange-red, rather than scarlet, and the black on the head extends further down the breast. Females are also yellower but lack the distinct yellow supercilium of the Scarlet Minivet.

Males of Short-billed Minivet have a more extensive black cap that covers the ear-coverts, and the red on the underparts is often a deeper crimson. Females have a more prominent yellow supercilium and a yellow throat, contrasting with a grey breast. The bill is also noticeably shorter.
