Purple Gallinule song and calls

Calls

A variety of harsh, clucking, cackling, and squawking calls. Common calls include a sharp 'kek-kek-kek' or 'krr-krr-krr', a softer 'purrr', and a loud, chicken-like 'hen-hen-hen' or 'krek-krek-krek' when alarmed or interacting. Also produces a distinctive 'krr-aah' call.

When they vocalize

Most vocal during the breeding season, particularly at dawn and dusk, but can be heard throughout the day, especially when disturbed or communicating with mates/chicks.
