Subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, dry forests, gallery forests, woodland, and sometimes disturbed areas or agricultural land.
Geographic range
Southeastern Brazil (from Bahia south to Rio Grande do Sul), eastern Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina (Misiones province).
Preferred environments
Prefers forest edges, clearings, secondary growth, and areas with scattered trees. They are adaptable and can be found in both pristine and anthropogenically altered landscapes.

Field tips
- Listen for Calls. Their noisy vocalizations are often the first indication of their presence, especially when they are flying overhead or foraging in dense foliage.
- Look for Flocks. Maroon-bellied Conures are rarely solitary. Scan tree canopies and forest edges for groups of active, chattering birds.
- Observe Feeding Sites. Look for them in fruiting trees or areas with abundant seeds. They can be quite acrobatic while feeding.
