European Serin look-alikes

Key differences

Larger and stockier than the Serin. Greenfinches have a more robust bill, more extensive green plumage (less yellow), and prominent yellow patches in the wings and tail. Their song is also different, featuring a drawn-out 'dweee' call.

Found in higher altitudes in mountainous regions. Citril Finches have a more uniform greenish-yellow plumage, less streaking, and a more prominent yellow supercilium. Their song is also distinct, often described as more melodious and less rattling than the Serin's.
