The Tropical Parula has a more extensive black mask, a more prominent yellow supercilium, and lacks the green back patch of the Northern Parula. Its breast band is also typically less distinct or absent, and its range is primarily south of the Northern Parula's breeding range, though there is some overlap in southern Texas.
