Brown Booby song and calls

Song

Brown Boobies do not have a complex song. Their vocalizations are generally harsh and guttural.

Calls

Males produce a variety of whistling or hissing calls, often described as 'wheee-oo' or 'hiss-whistle'. Females have harsher, more guttural calls, often a 'kraaaah' or 'rattle'. Both sexes use these calls during courtship, territorial disputes, and when disturbed at the nest.

When they vocalize

Most vocal during the breeding season at the colony, especially during courtship displays and when interacting with mates or intruders. Less vocal at sea.
