Fieldfare song and calls

Birdsong and calls are often the easiest way to identify the Fieldfare, especially when the bird is hidden in dense foliage. Below is what to listen for.

Song

The song is a rather weak, chattering, and squeaky warble, often delivered from a prominent perch. It's not as melodious or complex as other thrushes like the Song Thrush.

Calls

Most characteristic is a harsh, rattling 'chack-chack-chack' call, often given in flight or when alarmed. Also a thin, high-pitched 'tsiiih' call, especially when migrating.

When they vocalize

Calls are given year-round, particularly frequently during migration and when in flocks. Song is primarily heard during the breeding season, from April to June.
