Key differences

The White-rumped Shama has a prominent white rump and outer tail feathers, contrasting sharply with its black body. The Rufous-tailed Shama, as its name suggests, has a rufous rump and tail. The White-rumped Shama also typically has a chestnut belly, whereas the Rufous-tailed Shama is dark grey to black underneath.

Key differences

Magpie-robins have a distinct black and white plumage pattern, with a white belly and prominent white wing bars. They lack the rufous rump and tail of Copsychus pyrropygus. Magpie-robins are also more commonly found in open, disturbed habitats and human settlements, while the Rufous-tailed Shama prefers dense forest.
