Burung mirip Crimson Sunbird

Key differences

The Olive-backed Sunbird (Burung Madu Sigung) is larger and lacks the extensive crimson on the breast of the male Crimson Sunbird. Males have a metallic blue-green throat and breast, with a yellow belly. Females are duller overall, with a yellow belly, distinguishing them from the more yellowish-green underparts of female Crimson Sunbirds.

Key differences

The Copper-throated Sunbird is larger and has a distinctive iridescent copper-red throat and breast in males, contrasting with a dark belly. The male Crimson Sunbird has a purplish-blue throat and a crimson breast. Females are also different, with Copper-throated females having a more prominent yellow supercilium.

Key differences

This is the same species, 'Crimson Sunbird' is also sometimes referred to as 'Purple-throated Sunbird' in older literature or specific regions, but 'Crimson' is more widely accepted for Leptocoma sperata. If referring to a different species, such as the Purple Sunbird (Cinnyris asiaticus), it is found in a different geographic range (mainly Indian subcontinent) and males have an entirely iridescent purple plumage with no crimson breast.
