The distinctive song is a continuous, churring 'churr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r' that can last for several minutes without a break, often described as sounding like a distant motor or sewing machine. The pitch and volume can vary, and it often ends abruptly. It is typically delivered from a perch or in flight.

Richiami

A sharp 'kwik-kwik' or 'coo-ic' call is given in alarm or during courtship flights. A soft 'gweep' or 'gook' contact call is also used.

Quando vocalizzano

Primarily vocalizes from dusk to dawn during the breeding season (May to July), especially on moonlit nights. Less vocal during migration or in wintering grounds.
