Key differences

The Twite lacks the white wing-bar and white outer tail feathers of the Linnet. Its bill is yellow in winter and grey in summer, contrasting with the Linnet's greyish-horn bill. Twites also have a more restricted, often upland or coastal, distribution and a different call (a nasal 'twa-eet').

Key differences

Redpolls have a smaller, more pointed bill, a black chin patch, and a distinctive red forehead patch (present in both sexes, though brighter in males). They lack the grey nape and chestnut back of the male Linnet and the prominent white wing-bar. Their calls are also distinct, often a 'chick-chick-chick' or 'swee-eet'.

Key differences

Greenfinches are larger and stockier, with a much thicker, conical bill. They have prominent yellow patches in the wings and tail, and males are largely olive-green. They lack the streaky brown plumage and crimson markings of the Linnet.
