Key differences

The Eurasian Wigeon male has a reddish-brown head with a creamy-yellow crown (instead of white and green). The female Eurasian Wigeon is very similar to the American Wigeon female but typically has a darker, more reddish-brown head and a less distinct white wing patch. The bill of the Eurasian Wigeon is also slightly darker gray.

Key differences

Mallards are larger and have a different head pattern (green head, white neck ring for males). Their bills are yellow (male) or orange with black (female), much larger than the American Wigeon's small, blue-gray bill. Mallards also have a blue speculum, not a white forewing patch.
