Key differences

The European Serin is slightly smaller and has a more prominent yellow rump and brighter yellow on the breast and face, especially in males. Its streaking is generally finer and less extensive than the Atlantic Canary. Key differences

Historically considered a subspecies of Serinus canaria, S. teneriffae is now recognized by some as a distinct species found on the western Canary Islands.
