Where does the Fearow live?

The Fearow lives in specific habitats and regions. Knowing where, and when, to look improves your chances of a successful sighting.

Biomes

Fearow are highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of biomes, including temperate grasslands, savannas, open woodlands, mountainous regions, and coastal cliffs. They prefer areas with open spaces for hunting and elevated perches for roosting and nesting.

Geographic range

Widespread across the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh regions, with isolated populations reported in other continental landmasses. They are particularly common in the central plains and mountainous borders of these regions.

Preferred environments

They prefer environments that offer a combination of open hunting grounds and secure, elevated nesting sites. This includes large open fields, plateaus, and rugged cliff faces. They generally avoid dense forests or heavily urbanized areas.

Elevation range

Typically found from sea level up to 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) in mountainous terrain. They are known to soar at even higher altitudes during migration or hunting.

Where to look

Field tips

1. Scan the Skies. Fearow spend a significant amount of time soaring at high altitudes. Use binoculars or a spotting scope to scan the sky, especially on clear, sunny days when thermals are active.
2. Look for Perches. Check prominent perches such as dead trees, power poles, and cliff edges. Fearow often use these to survey their territory and ambush prey.
3. Listen for Calls. Their distinctive, loud calls can often alert you to their presence before you see them. Learn to recognize the 'KRAAAAH!' call.
4. Observe Prey Behavior. If smaller bird or mammal populations suddenly become agitated or take cover, it might indicate the presence of a hunting Fearow.
5. Respect Nesting Sites. During the breeding season, Fearow can be very aggressive. Maintain a respectful distance from known nesting areas to avoid disturbing them and to ensure your safety.

Migration

Fearow are generally resident in warmer climates. However, populations in the northernmost parts of their range undertake short-distance migrations to more temperate zones during harsh winters. These migrations are typically altitudinal, moving from higher elevations to lower valleys, or latitudinal, covering several hundred kilometers.
