Fearow song and calls

Birdsong and calls are often the easiest way to identify the Fearow, especially when the bird is hidden in dense foliage. Below is what to listen for.

Song

Fearow do not possess a complex song. Their vocalizations are primarily calls. During courtship, males may emit a series of rapid, high-pitched screeches followed by a drawn-out, piercing cry, often performed during aerial displays.

Calls

The most common call is a loud, piercing 'KRAAAAH!' or 'FEE-ROW!', often repeated several times, especially when disturbed or asserting territory. They also produce a sharper, more urgent 'kek-kek-kek' when agitated or warning of a threat. Juveniles emit softer, begging 'peep' calls.

When they vocalize

Calls are most frequent during the breeding season, particularly around the nest site. They also vocalize when hunting, asserting territory, or when disturbed. Less vocal during non-breeding periods, except for alarm calls.
