A rapid, jumbled, and rather unmusical series of chirps, trills, and buzzing notes, often incorporating the characteristic 'twite' call. It lacks the melodic quality of the Linnet's song.

Calls

The most distinctive call is a dry, nasal, and rather harsh 'twee-it' or 'twite', often given in flight or from a perch. Also a short 'chup' contact call within flocks.

When they vocalize

Most vocal during the breeding season (spring and early summer) when males sing to attract mates and defend territories. Contact calls are given year-round, especially within flocks.
