Common in well-vegetated urban areas, especially those with mature eucalypts and open lawns. Look for them near flowering trees.

Their natural habitat, particularly woodlands with a grassy understorey and scattered trees. They prefer edges and fragmented areas.
Roadsides and Agricultural Lands
Often found in remnant vegetation along roadsides and in agricultural landscapes where native trees persist.
Golf Courses and Campgrounds
These managed landscapes often provide ideal habitat with open spaces and scattered trees.
Field tips
- Listen First. Noisy Miners are almost always heard before they are seen. Their loud, distinctive calls will alert you to their presence.
- Look for Groups. They are highly social, so if you see one, there are likely many more nearby. Scan trees and shrubs for multiple individuals.
- Observe Interactions. Watch for their aggressive behavior towards other birds. If you see a group of birds mobbing a larger bird or chasing smaller ones, it's likely Noisy Miners.
- Check Flowering Trees. They are nectar feeders, so flowering eucalypts and other native plants are good places to spot them foraging.
- Be Patient. While noisy and conspicuous, they can be quite active. Find a good vantage point and observe their movements within the colony.
Migration
Sedentary and resident throughout their range, not undertaking seasonal migrations. Individuals typically remain within their established colony territories.
