Key differences

While also having a red brow, the Red-browed Pardalote is a different family (Pardalotidae), has a much shorter, stouter beak, and a more robust body. Its plumage is generally duller, lacking the olive-green back and red rump of the Fawn-breasted Waxbill. Pardalotes are also typically arboreal, feeding on insects in tree canopies, whereas waxbills are ground-feeding granivores.

Key differences

The Crimson Finch is larger and much more extensively red on its underparts and face. It lacks the distinct red brow stripe and olive-green back of the Fawn-breasted Waxbill, instead having a more uniform crimson head and underparts. Its range is also more restricted to northern Australia.
