Where does the Brown-headed Barbet live?

Where to look

Field tips

1. Listen for their call. Their loud, persistent call is often the easiest way to locate them. Once heard, scan the canopy of tall trees in the direction of the sound.
2. Look for fruiting trees. Focus your search on large fruiting trees, particularly fig trees (Ficus species), as these are their primary food source.
3. Be patient and scan the canopy. Barbets can be well-camouflaged among the leaves despite their bright green plumage. Look for movement or the distinctive shape of their head and bill.
4. Observe feeding behavior. If you find a fruiting tree, watch for birds actively feeding. Barbets often spend considerable time at a single food source.

Migration

Resident throughout its range, with no significant migratory movements. Local movements may occur in response to fruit availability.
