Hamerkops are not known for a complex song. Their vocalizations are generally limited to calls.

Calls

Common calls include a sharp, high-pitched 'kek-kek-kek' or 'yik-yik-yik' often given in flight or when disturbed. They also produce a loud, nasal 'whaa-whaa-whaa' during display flights or when approaching the nest. During communal displays, they emit a rapid, excited 'kwa-kwa-kwa' while bobbing their heads.
