Does not have a true song. Its vocalizations are loud, harsh, and distinctive calls.

Calls

The most characteristic call is a loud, far-carrying, often repeated 'kawk-kawk-kawk' or 'kawk-kawk-aw-kawk', sometimes described as a 'brainfever bird' call due to its repetitive nature. Also produces a harsh, guttural 'scraaaaw' or 'skree-ark' and various other loud, raucous cackles and shrieks. Calls are often given in flight or from high perches.

When they vocalize

Most vocal during the breeding season (spring and summer in Australia), particularly at dawn and dusk, but can call throughout the day and sometimes at night.
