Song

Forster's Terns do not have a complex song. Their vocalizations are primarily calls.

Calls

Common calls include a harsh, grating 'karrr' or 'zraah', often given in alarm or during territorial disputes. They also produce a sharper 'kip' or 'kek' call. During courtship or when approaching the nest, a softer 'churr' may be heard.

When they vocalize

Most vocal during the breeding season, especially when disturbed at the colony. Also vocal during migration and when foraging in groups.
