Canto

Swans do not have a complex song. Their vocalizations are generally trumpeting, honking, or whistling calls.

Richiami

Mute Swans are largely silent, hence their name, but can emit hisses, snorts, and soft grunts, especially when agitated. Their wings produce a characteristic 'singing' sound in flight. Whooper Swans have loud, bugling 'whoop-whoop-whoop' calls. Tundra Swans (Bewick's and Whistling Swans) have higher-pitched, more musical 'hoo-hoo-hoo' or 'wow-wow-wow' calls. Black Swans have a musical, far-carrying bugling call, often heard in flight or on water. Black-necked Swans have a soft, whistling call.

Quando vocalizzano

Vocalizations are most common during social interactions, alarm, or during migration (Whooper and Tundra Swans). Mute Swans are most vocal when threatened or during courtship displays.
