Canto

A very distinctive, monotonous, mechanical, and prolonged 'reeling' or 'sewing machine' song. It consists of a continuous, high-pitched trill, often described as 'zrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr', which can last for several minutes without a break. The pitch and volume are relatively constant, but the speed of the 'reeling' can vary slightly. Often delivered from a hidden perch deep within the reeds.

Richiami

Calls are rarely heard, but include a soft 'tchik' or 'tuc' alarm call, and a quiet 'tsip' contact call.

Quando vocalizzano

Most vocal during the breeding season, from April to July, particularly at dawn, dusk, and sometimes through the night. Less vocal during migration and in wintering grounds.
