Key differences

The Sevgili Manakin was formerly considered a subspecies of the White-fronted Manakin (Lepidothrix candida). The key difference is the extent of the white on the crown. In L. serena, the white crown is extensive, covering the entire crown from forehead to nape. In L. candida, the white is typically restricted to the forehead or a smaller patch on the crown. L. candida also has a slightly different vocalization and a more westerly distribution.

Key differences

The Snow-capped Manakin also has a white crown, but its distribution is further south in the Amazon basin (Brazil, Bolivia, Peru). The male Snow-capped Manakin has a more extensive white cap that often extends further down the back of the neck, and its underparts are a brighter, more uniform yellow without the greenish wash on the flanks seen in Sevgili Manakin. Vocalizations also differ.

Key differences

While also a manakin, the male Golden-headed Manakin has a bright golden-orange head and black body, lacking the white crown of the Sevgili Manakin. Females are also entirely green but lack the specific calls and habitat preferences of Lepidothrix species.
