Common Iora look-alikes

Key differences

Marshall's Iora (found in parts of India and Pakistan) is very similar but typically has a more extensive black back in breeding males, extending further down the back, and often a more yellowish rump. The white wing-bars are also often broader and more prominent. Females and non-breeding males are extremely difficult to distinguish in the field without direct comparison or vocalizations.

Key differences

The Green Iora (found in Southeast Asia) lacks the prominent black cap and back of the breeding Common Iora male. Both sexes are predominantly green above and yellow below, with less distinct wing-bars. Its calls are also different.
