Galah song and calls

Birdsong and calls are often the easiest way to identify the Galah, especially when the bird is hidden in dense foliage. Below is what to listen for.

Song

Galahs do not have a complex song. Their vocalizations are primarily calls.

Calls

A distinctive, high-pitched, screeching 'chee-chee' or 'chur-r-r' often repeated. They also produce harsh squawks, chattering, and softer contact calls within the flock. Calls are loud and carry over long distances.

When they vocalize

Most vocal at dawn and dusk when flying to and from roosting sites, and continuously while feeding or interacting in flocks.
