Where does the Fearow live?

The Fearow lives in specific habitats and regions. Knowing where, and when, to look improves your chances of a successful sighting.

Biomes

Fearow primarily inhabits open grasslands, savannas, mountainous regions, and large, open plains. They require vast open spaces for hunting and soaring.

Geographic range

Widespread across temperate and tropical regions of the Kanto and Johto continents, with isolated populations in other large landmasses. They are absent from dense forests and polar regions.

Preferred environments

Prefers areas with sparse tree cover or rocky outcrops for nesting and perching, offering clear views of hunting grounds. Often found near large bodies of water or rivers, though not strictly aquatic.

Elevation range

Found from sea level up to 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) in mountainous territories, often utilizing updrafts in higher altitudes for efficient soaring.

Where to look

Field tips

1. Scan the Skies. Fearow spend a significant amount of time soaring at high altitudes. Use binoculars or a spotting scope to scan the sky, especially during mid-morning and late afternoon.
2. Look for Thermals. On warm, sunny days, observe areas where thermals are likely to form (e.g., over open fields, rocky outcrops). Fearow will often be seen circling within these thermals.
3. Check High Perches. Look for Fearow perched on tall, isolated trees, power poles, or prominent rocky outcrops, especially in the early morning or late evening.
4. Listen for Calls. Their loud, distinctive calls can often be heard before the bird is seen, especially when they are soaring or defending territory.

Migration

Primarily resident throughout their range, though some populations in colder, higher-latitude regions may undertake short-distance altitudinal migrations to lower elevations during harsh winters in search of food.
