Coots do not have a complex song. Their vocalizations are primarily calls.

Calls

A variety of sharp, explosive, and often metallic calls. Common calls include a sharp, 'kewk' or 'kew-kewk', a more drawn-out 'psiss', and a harsh, grating 'krrrak'. Alarm calls are typically louder and more insistent. Different calls are used for territorial defense, contact, and alarm.

When they vocalize
