How it forages

Primarily piscivorous. Hunts by soaring high above the water or perching on a vantage point, then swooping down to snatch fish from the surface with its powerful talons. It can carry fish weighing up to 1.8 kg (4 lb). Occasionally preys on waterbirds (e.g., flamingos, ducks), small mammals, and carrion. It is known to steal prey from other birds (kleptoparasitism).
