How it forages

Primarily granivorous, feeding almost exclusively on the seeds of grasses, especially spinifex and other native grasses. They forage on the ground and directly from seed heads. They are opportunistic feeders, moving to areas where seeds are abundant after rainfall. They also consume some green vegetation and occasionally insects.

When it feeds

Diurnal. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, foraging in the morning and late afternoon, resting during the midday heat.
