1. Listen for Calls. Blue Jays are very vocal. Their loud, distinctive calls often give away their presence before they are seen. Learn their various calls, including their hawk mimicry.
2. Look for Movement in Trees. They are active birds, often moving through the canopy or foraging on the ground beneath trees. Their bright blue plumage can be surprisingly camouflaged in dappled light, but movement will reveal them.
3. Visit Oak Forests. During autumn, focus on oak forests where they are actively caching acorns. In winter, they will return to these caches.
4. Set up a Feeder. If you live within their range, a bird feeder with peanuts (in or out of the shell) or black oil sunflower seeds is an excellent way to attract Blue Jays.

Migrazione

Partially migratory. Northern populations often migrate south for the winter, while southern populations are largely resident. Migration occurs during the day, often in loose flocks. The extent of migration can vary year to year depending on food availability.
