A highly specialized snake predator. It hunts by perching conspicuously on a high branch, scanning the ground below. Once a snake is spotted, it swoops down, often landing on the ground to seize its prey with its talons. It frequently bites the snake's head to kill it, then carries it to a perch to consume it, sometimes tearing it into pieces. It is known to be fearless in confronting venomous snakes.

Diurnal, most active during the morning and late afternoon. Often perches for long periods during the heat of midday.
