Birdsong and calls are often the easiest way to identify the House Crow, especially when the bird is hidden in dense foliage. Below is what to listen for.

Song

House Crows do not have a melodious song in the traditional sense. Their vocalizations are primarily a series of harsh calls.

Calls

The most common call is a distinctive, repetitive 'kaa-kaa' or 'kaaa-kaaa', often given rapidly. They also produce a variety of other harsh notes, squawks, and gurgles, used for alarm, communication within the flock, or territorial display. Calls are less deep and guttural than larger crows.

When they vocalize

Vocal throughout the day, especially active and noisy during dawn and dusk, and when disturbed or interacting in flocks.
