How it forages

Highly specialized osteophage. Feeds almost exclusively on bones and bone marrow, which can constitute 85-90% of its diet. It drops large bones from heights onto rocks to shatter them, then consumes the fragments and marrow. Also eats small amounts of meat, skin, and ligaments. Does not typically feed on putrid flesh like other vultures.

When it feeds

Diurnal, active during daylight hours, primarily soaring and foraging.
